MOR-Bible,
which is by God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, God's grace,
unmerited divine favor, be to you and peace, an absolute end of
all strife or trouble, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ
to the faithful in Christ Jesus.
Father, we rejoice at your Word as one that finds great riches.
Father, your Word has made known to us the ways of life. We are
full of joy with your holy spirit within us, for your Word is your
intense desire. Father, we pray that you open your Word unto us.
We are your children and long for your Word and intense desire.
In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
In last month's teaching,
we reviewed The Will of God - Part 1. We learned the Greek
word theléma is the word "will" which means God's
desire, purpose, or intense desire. In the Word of God, theléma
primarily refers to the will or intense desire of God, surrounding
His sovereign plans and purposes. In the phrase "will of God,"
the word "of" is the Greek word ek or out of. The
Greek word theos is the word "God" and primarily
refers to the one true God, the Creator and Sustainer of the universe,
as revealed in the Christian faith. It became necessary in the New
Testament of the Bible to distinguish it by the article "the"
or "the God" meaning the one supreme with whom is the
fountain of life and light.
Let's continue to The Will of God - Part 2 of by studying
God's Word to shew ourselves approved unto God, a workman that
needed not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth
(2 Timothy 2:15) for the Will of God! The Word of God is the Will
of God! No one can know the Will of God without studying His Word!
As we look at the phrase the will of God, we will bold it
for emphasis in the scriptures. Remember the meanings associated
with the word "will" or theléma, "of"
or ek, and "God" or Theos.
Note:
The sources for all Greek English words are Strong's Exhaustive
Concordance of the Bible, The Critical Lexicon and Concordance
to the English and Greek New Testament (Bullinger), Young's
Analytical Concordance to the Bible, The Word Study Concordance
by George V. Wigram and Ralph D. Winter, The Bible Hub
and Webster's Desk Dictionary of the English Language.
In
2 Corinthians 8:4-5, it is written:
Praying
us with much intreaty that we [Paul, Timothy, and Titus]
would receive the gift [of abundance sharing] and take
upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints.
And
this they [the
churches of Macedonia] did,
not as we hoped,
but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by
the will of God.
This
verse tells us it was the will of God that the churches of
Macedonia provided from their abundance for the ministering of the
saints, holy ones, sanctified ones, and purified ones. The verse
clarified that the church first gave themselves to the Lord by the
intense desire out of God, the one supreme with whom is the fountain
of life and light. We are reminded that it is the will of God for
us to share of our abundance for the ministering to the saints,
holy ones, sanctified ones, and purified ones.
It
is written in Galatians 1:4:
Who
gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this
present evil world, according to the will of God and our
Father.
The
Lord Jesus Christ gave himself for our sins so that he will deliver
us from this present evil world, according to the intense desire
out of God, the one supreme with whom is the fountain of life and
light and our Father. To God be glory for ever and ever, Amen.
Turn next to Ephesians 1:1:
Paul,
an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints
which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus.
Paul
was what? An apostle of Jesus Christ; the use of the name
Jesus Christ put the emphasis upon the walk of Jesus on the earth,
his earthly ministry (see the 2024 teachings).
You see, an apostle is here upon earth and moves among people. This
was why the word "Jesus" preceded the word "Christ"
in the verse. Paul did not make or call himself an apostle; he was
an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God!
The word "will" in the Aramaic means God's pleasure. But
I love the word, in the Greek, because it's the Greek word theléma,
will, which is the intensive desire of God. see October
2023 and November 2023
teachings).
In Ephesians 1:1, the word "saints" is the Aramaic word
kdisha which means the sanctified or separated ones. The
Greek word is hagiois, meaning saints, holy ones, those set
apart. And it is from the verb hazo which means the purified
one. Remember, Ephesians was originally written in Aramaic and translated
into Greek and then translated to old English by King James. To
understand the meaning of the verse fully, it is important to go
back to the original language as often, the meaning was lost in
the translation to old English.
The word "faithful" is the Greek word pistis in
this verse and is always used in relationship to believingly or
faithfully serving God with good works, doing the will of the Lord,
being faithful or believing, acting in the light of God's Word in
your walk and in your action, in your believing (see February
2017 and March 2017
teachings). To be faithful or pistis, you must put your faith
in action - in your walk, talk, and believing.
Now, let's put our understanding, and the meaning, back into Ephesians
1:1:
Paul,
an apostle sent one of Jesus, the humble one and Christ, the anointed
one, the messiah, by the intense desire out of God, the one supreme
with whom is the fountain of life and light, to the saints, holy
ones, those set apart, purified ones which are at Ephesus, and
to the faithful serving God with good works, doing the will of
the Lord in Christ Jesus.
Let's
look at the next occurrence of the phrase the will of God.
It is written in Ephesians 6:6:
Not
with eyeservice, as men pleasers; but as the servants of Christ,
doing the will of God from the heart.
Opening
our understanding of the original meaning of the key words, the
verse can be re-written to say:
Not
with eyeservice, as men pleasers; but as the servants or slaves
of Christ, the one who is seated at the right hand of God, who
gave him a name that is above every name, doing the intense desire
out of God, the one supreme with whom is the fountain of life
and light from the heart, the seat of the personal life which
is operated from the mind.
Colossians
4:12 is the next place we find the phrase under study:
Epaphras,
who is one of you, a servant of Christ, salutes you, always laboring
fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete
in all the will of God.
Verse
12 with understanding.
Epaphras,
who is one of you, a bondservant, bound to serve Christ, the one
who is seated at the right hand of God, who gave him a name that
is above every name, greets you, always laboring fervently for
you in prayers, that you may stand perfectly mature and complete,
filled to capacity in all the intense desire out of God, the one
supreme with whom is the fountain of life and light.
1 Thessalonians
4:3 has the next usage of the phrase the will of God:
For
this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that
ye should abstain from fornication.
Verse
3 with understanding.
For
this is the intense desire out of God, the one supreme whom is
the fountain of life and light, even your sanctification, or holiness
that you should abstain from spiritual idolatry and unlawful sex.
It
is written in 1 Thessalonians 5:18:
In
everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in
Christ Jesus concerning you.
The
phrase In everything give thanks followed by our phrase under
study tells us that this is the intense desire out of God, the one
supreme whom is the fountain of life and light in Christ, the anointed
one and messiah, Jesus, the humble one concerning you. This verse
does not say give thanks FOR EVERYTHING; in contrast, we are to
give thanks IN EVERYTHING. Why the difference between the words
FOR and IN? Because we have God in Christ in us the hope of glory
(see 2 Corinthians 5:19 and Colossians 1:27)!
The
next occurrence of the phrase the will of God is written
in Hebrews 10:36:
For
ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will
of God, ye might receive the promise.
Based
on our understanding, the verse can be rewritten to read:
For
you have need of steadfastness and endurance, that, after you
have done the intense desire out of God, the one supreme whom
is the fountain of life and light, you might take diligent care
of the promises made by God.
Turn
to 1 Peter 2:15:
For
so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put
to silence the ignorance of foolish men.
Verse
15 with understanding.
For
it is the intense desire of God, the one supreme whom is the fountain
of life and light, that with well doing you may put to silence
or muzzle the lack of knowledge of God's truth and righteous living,
among senseless and unwise men.
Now,
let's look at 1 Peter 3:17:
For
it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer
for well doing, than for evil doing.
Verse
17 with understanding.
For
it is better, if the intense desire out of God, the one supreme
whom is the fountain of life and light, that you endure physical
suffering and persecution for well doing, than for intentional
wrongdoing or malicious actions.
1 Peter
4:2 has the next usage. We will read verse 1 for context.
Forasmuch
then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves
likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the
flesh hath ceased from sin.
Here,
we see that Christ, the anointed one, the Messiah, endured and suffered
for us in the flesh. So, we are told to equip ourselves likewise
with the same mind and inner being because Christ endured in the
flesh so that we are ceased from sin.
With that context, we can now read 1 Peter 4:2:
That
he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to
the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
Wow!
Praise God! We see that if we have the same mind of Christ, we are
ceased from sin and no longer must live our life in the flesh to
the lusts of men. Instead, we can live our life to the will of
God. I don't know about you, but this encourages my heart and
mind. This isn't rocket science, people. It is laid out clearly
and simply - Adopt the mind of Christ, adopt the faith through our
walk and talk, and we will live according to the will of God.
Turn to 1 John 2:17:
And
the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth
the will of God abideth forever.
This
verse reinforces what we are told in 1 Peter 4:2. Let's re-read
it according to our understanding:
And
the world and order passed away, and the lust, desire and longing
thereof: but in contrast he that does the intense desire out of
God, the one supreme whom is the fountain of life and light, remains
and dwells forever!
Once
again, we are told, encouraged, implored to do the will of God
so that the old man nature of lusts and desires, put on us by Satan,
will not remain and dwell in us forever. Wow! It cannot be any clearer,
people. God gives us the instruction for how to live our earthly
life according to His intense passion and desire.
Let's
look at 1 John 5:14-15. We will read verse 15 for further understanding.
And
this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask anything
according to his will [the will of God],
he heareth us.
And
if we know that he [God]
hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions
that we desired of him [God].
These
verses rewritten based on our understanding would read:
And
this is the boldness that we have in God, the one supreme whom
is the fountain of life and light, that, if we request anything
according to God's intense desire, He will listen to us.
And
if we have seen that God, the one supreme whom is the fountain
of life and light, listens and hears us, whatsoever we ask, according
to His Word we know that we have the object prayed for according
to His Word. See November
2021 teaching.
What
a marvelous, magnificent, and remarkable truth! The Word of God
is the Will of God! God's Word tells us over and over again what
his intense desire and passion is. To know it, we must work, read,
walk, and talk the Word of God!
Look at Acts 5:29:
Then
Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey
God rather than men.
What
do Peter and the other apostles say? We ought to obey God,
the one supreme whom is the fountain of life and light! And we do
this in contrast to obeying who? men. This is so important
to remember, especially in the times we are going through now. Our
obedience is not to men (or women)! Our obedience is to God and
His Will!
Jeremiah
17:5 reminds us again:
Thus
saith the Lord (Jehovah); Cursed be the man that trusteth in man,
and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord
(Jehovah).
Our
hearts, which is our minds, are not departed from the will of the
Lord Jehovah (see March 2023
teaching on the heart and mind)! Your mind controls your will! I
am constantly hearing people say, "I have to do this because
so-and-so said to do it," or "Well, I trust this is true
because so-and-so said it." People, turn to God's Word for
the truth. This is where your faith and trust must be placed. The
Will of God is that we know His Word and are not tricked by the
adversary to trust, believe, talk, and walk in Satan's way. God's
Word cannot be clearer! And if you didn't get it, please read this
teaching again and again until you do. The Word of God is the Will
of God!
In this month's teaching Part 2: The Will Of God, we learned:
- And
this they [the churches of Macedonia;] did, not as we hoped,
but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the
will of God (2 Corinthians 8:5).
- Who
[the Lord Jesus Christ] gave himself for our sins, that he
might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the
will of God and our Father (Galatians 1:4)
- Paul,
an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God (Ephesians
1:1).
- but
as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the
heart (Ephesians 6:6).
- that
ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God
(Colossians 4:12).
- For
this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that
ye should abstain from fornication (1 Thessalonians 4:3).
- In
everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in
Christ Jesus concerning you (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
- For
ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will
of God, ye might receive the promise (Hebrews 10:36).
- For
so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put
to silence the ignorance of foolish men (1 Peter 2:15).
- For
it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer
for well doing, than for evil doing (1 Peter 3:17).
- That
he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to
the lusts of men, but to the will of God (1
Peter 4:2).
- And
the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth
the will of God abideth forever (1 John 2:17).
Just
in case you missed it, the will of God is that we:
-
Give ourselves to the Lord.
- Believe
that Jesus Christ gave himself for our sins to deliver us from
this evil world.
- Are
disciples of Jesus Christ.
- Stand
perfect and complete in His Word.
- Abstain
from spiritual fornication and unlawful sex.
- Give
thanks IN everything.
- Are
to be patient to receive the promise of God.
- Are
to put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.
- May
have to suffer for our well doing.
- Do
not live our lives in the flesh and lusts of Satan.
- Will
abide forever when we stand on the Word of God and not in the
ways of the world.
Father,
thank you for making your Will known unto us through your Word.
We pray that our walk will be according to your Word and well pleasing
in your sight. We pray that we remember your Word and put it on
in our hearts as we are bombarded by the tricks of the adversary
in our daily walk. Give us strength and courage to use your Word
to confront this evil world. Increase our understanding of your
Word so we may do your Will. May we hold fast to the will of
God in all we do and say, and may we use our knowledge of your
Word to discern good from evil, right from wrong, and truth from
fiction. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
We exhort and encourage you to walk according to the Will of God
which is His Word! Bless your hearts, we sure do love you.

Lord,
